In the nineteen forties, two extraordinary French ladies, Mesdames Sebillon-Larochette, aided and abetted by the Pasha who lent them one of his cooks, decided to set up the first restaurant in the Marrakech Medina specializing in Moroccan cuisine.
This was La Maison Arabe, which rapidly established itself as a legendary gourmet meeting-place and so remained for several decades, frequented by such illustrious travellers as Winston Churchill and Queen Ingrid of Denmark.
