Shops (tourists)
Most
of the tourist shops accept credit cards like Euro/Master, Visa
and sometimes American Express. You can also pay at
international hotels or in some restaurants with credit card
Do not pay immediately the first price. If you trade skill you
can get a reduction. (this does not pass for restaurants or
hotels)
Journals
At
a lot of kiosks you can get International journals and magazines
one or two days after date of issue.
Daily journals and magazines in French are available in the
whole city.
Purchase of food

On
the markets a big quantity and choice of fruits and vegetables
are offered. Here you can try to trade for getting a good price.
Often tourists and strangers are offered a higher price. There
is always a difference to trade, even though you have the
opinion it is cheap. 1Dirham has the worth of 0,5 Euro, compared
with the salaries in Morocco.

Bread you can
buy at each street corner. One little flat bread (black or
white) costs1DH, a taller one 1,80DH and a Baguette 1,10DH.
There is no big choice of bread in Morocco.
Meat is available for 40-60 DH. Most of the European are
frightened of the butchers, because the meat hang simply at the
fresh air. It is sold normally the same day, it its butchered.
Every part of the animals are salt. Be careful with minced meat.
Meat
of chicken costs 30 DH/kg. You can even choose your "chicken",
which will be killed and plucked for you.
Eggs can be bought without any risks. The prices are between
0,80 and 1,10DH, depending on the season. Eggs of
chicken in big farms are cheaper ("rumi",
mostly brown, and with a similar size) and the eggs of the land
("beldi", smaller, differently coloured, but brighter)
Fish
is sold every day freshly at the fish-market. Except if it rains
or a strong wind blows. Regard the signals for fresh fish: red
gills and clear eyes
You have a big choice: f.e. gold-fish (sea bream) for
20 DH/kg, sardines 7 DH/kg, shrimps 30 - 40 DH/kg
There are a lot baker's shops and cake shops. The oldest and
excellent baker's shop is located at the corner of Av. A. Ben
Abdellah - El Hajjali. The address: Café Chez Driss, 10, rue El
Hajjali. Here you can also get cheese, butter and other products
made from milk
Hint
It
is useful to have a lot of small change to pay easily at the
souqs, at the shops because small change is always missed. The
easiest way is to ask at the bank to get a lot of small change
when you receive money.
Super-markets
You will always find higher prices for imported products. for
them. Also when they are produced in Morocco. At the new big
super-markets like Macro and Marjane (in Casablanca, Agadir,
Rabat and Marrakech) you can find a great and various choice of
a lot of European products.
But it makes more fun to buy at the commercials at their little
shops called Hannuts Sometimes in case of any problems of
understanding it is easier to get the food in the super-market |
