The
Souqs
 |
The Souqs
of Marrakech are one of the best of the whole country. In Fes you always need a guide to orientate in the Souqs, but
this is much easier to find the way in Marrakech. You can
admire a great variety of crafts, buy a lot of rubbish, in
the air the oriental smell t of the different spices.
Craftsmen make tea pots, kettles, candle stands, vases,
lamps....In
the bazaars you can find delicious pastries, all sort of
spices…...here the traditional mint tea is offered and there
men in Djellabahs sit behind their
mechanical sewing machines, during the tradesman next door
stack up his wool.
|
The labyrinthine of the Souq of Marrakech is situated
between the place Djemaa el-Fna and the mosque Ben Youssef
in the north. |
 |
 |
The
different crafts are separated in the lanes. If you starts
in the north at the mosque Ben Youssef you will first
find the Coppersmith,
dyers, the iron works. If you continue you arrives at
the former slave souq, not far away the Jewellers are found
and the leatherworks.
|
|
Straight
on you arrives at the place Rahba Kedima, where
Tanneries
are located
(the real tannery souq is a near the walls of the town at
the bab Ed Derbagh, and in a lane
the carpet souq, the souq Semmarine with the spices and
potteries and a lot of textile shops join in the south.
